Weekend Recap

Good Afternoon friends!!

I am a bit late posting because I had a very busy morning and forgot to schedule this post.
but better late than never.

i had a really great weekend actually. It went a little too fast, but it always does. The weather (except for yesterday) is incredible here. Sunny and in the 50s. I am loving it, but i am still craving a snow day, JUST ONE!

Anyways here is my weekend a la photos

Friday

Dave & Cody had boys night (aka mexican and bass pro) so i settled in and made dinner for one and watched youtube vids. I didn't have the best day so i was fine in my sweats just relaxing and headed to bed early. I also proud I stayed on track with grilled chicken, broccoli and a red potato for dinner. I could have ordered take out and justified by telling myself I was having a bad day, but i didn't. #nsv fasho.

Saturday
Jen & I were up and at the gym early. Got a 5.5 mile run in (my freakin treadmill shuts down at an hour which pisses me off because I could have run a lot longer) then I headed back and had my protein. (see link, i am looking for helpful comments/suggestions)
D had gone hunting so i came back and after I showered I cleaned up and watched a little youtube.
After D got  back we ran errands and went to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store (basically people can buy from this store of all donated house items and the proceeds from your purchase goes toward Habitat for Humanity) and we got a filing cabinet.
q'doba. ummm HELLLLLLO delish
Meal Planned, this is literally one of my fave things to do to relax. I am weirdo.
Saturday night we had a double date night with our friends Zach & Krysta. ( and i had to document D wearing his cute glasses eeeek)

Sunday
I was up early because poor D was puking. He had an awful headache so laid around a good portion of the morning. Then i headed out to get grocery shopping gone
Got to the gym in the afternoon. I haven't had a Sunday workout in a few weeks and it felt great being there.

UMMMMM have you tried these???? 100 cals for the whole pack.
go get them.
now.

and that's a wrap.
how was your weekend???

Happenings

Hello blogland. Can I get an amen for friday?!

It has been a while since I really posted so I thought I would share the happenings as of lately.

Taco Night with our two fave couples. This happened last Friday. We had a huge fish night. I had the grilled fish (near back of table) with the fixins'. The fried fish looked sooooo good, but so does a bikini so I resisted.
as per the same with this. #teacherlife #dailystruggles
I swear there is always a cupcake being brought into my room...

but it will ALL be worth it because...

WE ARE GOING ON A CRUISE!!!
We (D & I) along with jen and cody as well as our other couple friend, Krysta and Zach booked a 5 day cruise in June. We will be going through Carnival and going to Cozumel and the Yucatan. Any Cruise tips are much appreciated as none of us has ever been.

Over the weekend D, Jen, Cody and myself drove to Arkansas and went to a little town called Eureka Springs. We walked around the shops, got lunch and just enjoyed the GORGEOUS weather.

Jen and I
Outside the Crescent Hotel. We didn't stay just wanted to look around. It is said to be haunted..

There has been many workouts

Plus a lot of cooking We had seafood night at our house on Monday. Parmesan Tilapia with grilled asparagus and shrimp over brown rice and quinoa combo

What have you been up to?
Enjoy your weekend!

Protein on Protein

So as I said here and here I am going to start trying to do one healthy thing a week. Now of course I am doing more than one healthy thing, BUT one NEW thing to better my health and wellness. Some weeks it might be small, some weeks it might be bigger.

who knows.

For this week I tried something NEW.

I started taking protein. Now I have been eating quest bars for a few months but I wanted to up it. I lift almost every day in the gym. I feel like I am not seeing the results that I want. Of course diet comes into play, but i have really cleaned that up (with a few indulgences here and there of course) but I want to enhance all the work I am doing. So I thought i would try protein drinks out.

I went to GNC and asked for recommendations. Of course the guy pointed me to a 50 dollar container. That is alot, well for me. Especially for something I am not 100 percent knowledgeable on. So I passed (for now) and went to walmart and picked this up.

So my question for you, is what are your thoughts? Is it really worth the 50 bucks? Or will this be okay for what I am wanting. Keep in mind I am not trying to bulk up nor am i trying to train for a bikini show etc. I just want my muscles (specifically in my arms/shoulders and back) to be more pronounced and to show the hard work I am putting in while lifting.

I am still really new to this fitness game and do not know all the ins and outs. I do not want tons of supplements or anything with Advocare (sorry I am just not wanting that right now---no ads please). I just want some opinions of people who have been in my situation.

All the Broccoli

So I am back again to share one thing I did to make myself healthier this past week. Now of course I have done many other things but I am picking out one conscious choice I made to be a healthier person this week.

last week i shared about planking. I planked all but one workout last week! (it was after my 5.5 mile run and I honestly just totally forgot, I didn't skip on purpose).

So anyways this past weekend D took me to lunch. We headed to Applebee's (he loves the fajita burger and was craving it). I knew I wanted to make good choices (hello I just ran over 5 miles and didn't want to ruin it) so I ordered the Chicken Fajita Roll up (sauce on the side & no cheese). The lady asked if fries would be okay. Normally I would say, "yup!" This time I stopped and asked if there was another option. She listed off a few other side I could have which included mixed veggies.

I chose the veggies.

I ate all the veggies and one half of the wrap.

Getting healthy isn't going to be done in a day or one month. It is going to mindful and conscious small choices that build off one another.

What healthier choices are you making?

** I was thinking if anyone was interested that is, would anyone like to do a link-up/blog hop on this. I think it would be a great way for us to stay motivated and check out other people's healthy choices etc and to support each other---let me know**

Skinny Taco Salad {Recipe}

So I'm here to share this recipe that I just threw together. We are a Mexican food loving household! So instead of getting greasy fried and calorie laden dinner I made this.

Skinny Taco Salad.

Ingredients
-1 lb of lean ground meat (I used deer meat which is very lean, but chicken or turkey  works perfect
-1 bell pepper
-1 onion
-3/4 can in corn
- 1 can of pinto beans (blank beans are great)
- shredded lettuce
- shredded cheese
-salsa
- 1 package taco seasoning

Directions

Left down & then right down
1. Cut peppers & onions into bite size, not too small pieces
2. Sautée for about 5 minutes (I sprayed a little Pam before I put them in)
3. Add ground meat in same pan & brown at medium heat
4. Add seasoning (my package said to add 3/4 cup water as well- just follow package)
5. Stir all together. Cook at a slight boil for 15 minutes, add corn about 5 minutes before it's done.
6. We put it over quinoa ( we added the beans on top because they didn't fit in the pan) but you can do whatever you want.

Then just layer ingredients  & enjoy

Finished product :)

Nom.
Linking up with this gorgeous lady!!

One Step at a Time

So as part of my resolutions I am challenging myself to do one new healthy thing a week. It can range from big to something small. I want to try new things to make myself healthier and to do that I have to branch out of my comfort zone.

I am thinking about making this a weekly thing. I want to keep myself responsible and dedicated. I also would love if other people posted their own healthy actions or left comments. This way I, along with others can get ideas. I don't want our resolutions to die.

Anyways onto my healthy 'thing'. These can be fitness, food, anything related.

This week. I have challenged myself to plank.

Planking is a great a whole body exercise. Planking sucks, duh. But I know it can work wonders. My goal is every day i workout ( I have 5 days scheduled) to plank 4 times for 45 seconds. Yes I know that is not that long, but I gotta start somewhere.

So far I have fulfilled my goal and have planked each day I have made it to the gym.

What healthy think have you done this week?

Everyone has one

Resolutions.

There are probably 345390570 posts about resolutions out there.
I get it.

but helllllooooo its the new year. I have seen so many memes/posts on social media about how people are annoyed with the 'new year, new me' stuff floating around. People are already posting about how they are going to be annoyed by busy gyms etc etc.

I get it.

A lot of people post resolutions, join gyms yadda yadda yadda and then do not stick to it.  HOWEVER, what about those that do stick with it? They are changing their lives for the better and there ain't nothin wrong with that. So yes, will I be slightly annoyed if the treadmill/machine etc is not available to me this week, this month. yes. BUT I know what it's like to start out on healthier lifestyle. It is hard. Really hard. Hell, i am still struggling and no where near perfect or where I want to be. But everyone has to start somewhere. I am not going to bash someone for having goals. I have had that done to me, and it sucks.

I love fresh beginnings. It is just so exciting.

So today I am here to share with you some of my goals, or resolutions for 2015.

+ Better Skincare. I want to make sure I am taking better care of my skin and moisturizing and using quality products on my face and body.

+ Drink more water.  A LOT more. I feel like I do drink a lot, but I still want to up it especially at school.

+Lose another 20-25 lbs. Plain and simple. I will be in the my goal range if i do. I do not want to be a slave to the scale but I also want to be healthy.

+Lift Heavier. I want to continue to sculpt out my shoulders and arms & I wanna  get 'dat ass'

+Do more DIY

+Do one new healthy thing a week (I am thinking of making it a weekly post, thoughts)

+Run 10 miles without stopping. I went from barely 1 mile to 6.2 miles without stopping in 2014. 2015 is gonna be building those miles.

+Get my 5k under 30 minutes

+Save, I need to be better with my cash monies, especially if D and I want to get a house someday, I need to save.

+Focus on the here and now and worry about the future less

+Meal plan better/try new foods and experiment with recipes

+Make my bed more often

+Read more books

+Have better patience & look for the positive with my kids at school

I know there are a lot, but some are smaller and some are bigger. I just want to be better.
What are your goals?
